Course Objective:
This course aims at introducing pattern design to textile students. It starts with experimentations of different techniques of pattern illustration in order to create a motif. The motif will be repeated according to certain structures that allow for its seamless connection and we will explore in depth many techniques of repetition based on symmetry operations and tessellations, always creating the illustrations by hand. Within that, we will also explore the application of colors in patterns, including the different types of color harmonies. The second semester of this course will make use of this broad knowledge, then with a focus on surface and digital design.
